Chinese car brand BYD has launched its latest compact EV, the Atto 2, in the UK with prices starting at £30,850. Positioned below the Atto 3, the newcomer is BYD's answer to the Ford Puma Gen-E and new Renault 4 SUVs.
Buyers can choose between two sizes of BYD Blade Battery: a 51.1kWh unit with 174bhp and a larger 64.8kWh version delivering 201bhp. The bigger battery gives a range of up to 261 miles on a single charge, while both options feature rapid charging capability. The smaller pack supports up to 82kW, allowing a 30 to 80% top-up in 30 minutes, whereas the larger unit boasts 155kW charging, cutting the same top-up time to just 21 minutes.

The Atto 2 is available in Boost and Comfort trims. As we've come to expect from BYD, even the entry-level version is well-equipped, with things like 17-inch alloys, a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment screen and wireless smartphone charging coming a standard, plus Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality and a heat pump are also thrown in.
Comfort trim, priced at £34,950, only gets the the larger battery, and adds extra touches including ambient lighting, rear privacy glass, and – brace yourselves – a fold-down rear armrest with cupholders.
Buyers can choose from four exterior colours – Time Grey, Hiking Green, Skiing White, and Obsidian Black – with black or beige upholstery.
The BYD Atto 2 is available to order now, with first UK deliveries scheduled for September.
We've already driven the Atto 2 – you read our review here.
