BYD is taking on MG at the bargain end of the electric car market by announcing aggressive pricing for its new Dolphin, with prices starting at £25,490.

That entry-level price will buy the Active model, which has a 44.9kWh battery and 93bhp motor giving around 211 miles of range. It features BYD’s rotating touchscreen, electrically adjustable seats a 360 degree camera.

The Boost, priced at £26,490, has a more powerful 178bhp motor and 17-inch wheels which hit efficiency, so the range drops to 188 miles.

The £29,490 Comfort uses a bigger 60.4kWh battery and 201bhp motor and adds parking sensors, upgraded audio and heated seats. BYD claim a range of 265 miles and a 0-62mph time of around 7.0sec.

The range-topping Design is priced at £30,990 and gets tri-colour alloy wheels, two tone paint, a panoramic roof, privacy rear glass and a wireless phone charger.

All models are covered by a six year warranty, with a eight year’s cover on the battery, motor and controller.

The car is due in the UK during autumn 2023.
