Ford has become the first carmaker to secure the government’s maximum £3,750 electric car grant, a move that makes its new Puma Gen-E one of the most affordable electric crossovers on the market. The grant, awarded in recognition of Ford’s sustainability performance, also applies to the E-Tourneo Courier, and will be applied automatically by Ford dealers without any extra paperwork for customers.
Thanks to the grant, the electric version of Britain’s best-selling car is available from £290 a month on a 48-month Ford Options plan – £34 less than its petrol counterpart. With lower running costs – particularly for drivers who are able to charge from home – Ford claims buyers could save an average of £127 a month compared with a Puma ST-Line Petrol manual.
To sweeten the deal further, Ford has added its Power Promise package, which includes: a free wall charger worth £899, five years of free servicing and roadside assistance plus up to 10,000 miles of complimentary charging.

Commenting on the announcement, Lisa Brankin, Ford UK Chair and Managing Director, said: “We welcome the government’s decision to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and are proud that Ford’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised with the full EV grant. With a £3,750 saving available on the Puma Gen-E we’re helping to make the switch to electric simpler, more affordable and more rewarding.”
To date, Ford is the only brand to have secured eligibility for Band 1 grant of £3,370. The announcement ends speculation that no current models would qualify for the higher rate discount. Despite receiving significant numbers of applications for grants, the Government has approved just 28 models to date. electrifying.com understands that some key car makers are still waiting for approval despite having submitted applications within days of the grant’s announcement. The most recent Band 2 models to gain approval are the Peugeot E-308 and E-408, along with the DS3 and DS No4.
