MG has finally priced up its halo electric sports car Cyberster, and confirmed prices will start at just under £55,000.
The scissor-doored two-seater will come in two trim levels with power and range differing between the specification levels. Both cars get the same 77kWh battery pack.
Trophy kicks things off at £54,995 and gets a 335bhp electric powering the rear wheels. It'll be the first rear-wheel drive MG sports car since the MG RV8 of the mid-nineties, and in this form the Cyberster can dash from zero to 62mph in just five seconds. It'll be able to manage 316 miles before needing to be topped up, claims MG.
Top-drawer GT adds a motor to the front axle giving four-wheel drive, upping power to 496bhp, and slashing the 0-62mph sprint time down to 3.2 seconds. The GT will be able to cover a claimed 276 miles.
MG hasn't confirmed charging times for the Trophy, but the GT is capable of using DC rapid charging up to 150kW – enabling a charging time from 10 to 80% in 38 minutes.
All cars will come with customisable driving modes, adaptable regenerative braking, six-way adjustable heated seats, and a 10.25-inch driver display flanked by two seven-inch displays. Other equipment includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Bose sound system, and a 360-degree parking camera.
The Cyberster will act as a halo model for the Chinese-owned British brand. MG fans have been crying out for an all-new sports car since the demise of the TF in 2011.
The electric two-seater is larger than the TF, though, and is closer in size to the BMW Z4 due to the need to fit the 77kWh battery pack within the car's platform. It's also believed the Trophy model tips the scales at around 1,850kg – 750kg more than the TF – with the twin-motor GT weighing around 1,985kg.
Selected MG dealers will sell the Cyberster , with deliveries planned in August.
