Nissan has been selling EVs for 15 years in the UK, and it’s just confirmed that all of the electric cars it has sold have now covered over three billion miles on British roads.
Do you think traveling to the moon and back is a long way? Try doing that 6,337 times without leaving the UK. That’s almost as long as it takes to do a single lap of the M25! Only joking…

The news comes just a few months after the 15th anniversary of the first Nissan Leafs (Leaves?) being delivered to customers in March 2011. The Leaf was the first mass-produced, mainstream EV to come to the UK, and Nissan now also has the longest consistent history of electric vehicle sales in the UK. The British connection was strengthened in 2013 when Nissan began producing the Leaf at its plant in Sunderland, and of course the new, third-generation Nissan Leaf has also recently started production at the same facility.
The rest of the electric lineup at Nissan has expanded too, in 2026, the list includes the Renault 5-based Micra, Ariya SUV, plus the Townstar and Interstar vans.
That’s not all either, because Nissan says the Sunderland plant will soon begin building the ever-polarising Juke in its latest, origami-inspired guise.
The commitment to reasonably-priced electric motoring continues in 2026, two thirds of Nissan’s EV passenger car range qualifying for the UK Government’s electric vehicle grant; the Micra starts from £21,495 including the £1,500 grant, while the British-built Leaf gets a £3,750 grant to start at £28,849.
So, congratulations Nissan. Here’s to another 15 years and three billion more miles.
