Stellantis revealed its new Smart Compact Van range and a Fiat electric trike which is designed to replace the Piaggio Ape - the cute evolution of a scooter which is loved by coffee vendors in the UK and farmers going to market in Italy.

The new Smart Compact Van is being offered through the group's professional-vehicle brands - Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat PRO and Vauxhall - and was exhibited at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany, wearing Fiat Doblò EasyPRO badging. It will also be sold as a Citroën Berlingo First, Vauxhall Combo Start, and Peugeot Partner Active.

Electric power is central to the new range, with the van filling the gap left by previous models such as the Peugeot Bipper, Fiat Qubo and Citroën Nemo. Although technical details are scarce, it will have an official range of 168 miles. 

The Smart Compact Van is designed around a modular approach to the interior, allowing the available space to be configured according to the job, with features such as a folding passenger seat that can double up as a desk, plus modular bulkheads. 

If that van is too big for you, Stellantis is also showing the Fiat TRIS, a fully electric three-wheeled vehicle which mimics the classic scooter-based pick-ups used by farmers in southern Europe for decades. 

The TRIS is available in multiple configurations, including Pick-Up, Cargo, Chassis-Cabin and Flat Bed versions, It offers over 500 kg payload capacity and space for two Euro pallets.

It is powered by a 6.9 kWh battery, which is said to be enough for 56 miles (90 km) of range. It can be charged from any standard 220V domestic socket.
