All we want for Christmas is... the Electrifying team picks its Christmas list

Nicola Hume

All I want for Christmas is more rapid chargers under a shelter please! If that’s not possible then can all rapid chargers come with someone holding an umbrella for you so you don’t get soaked when you’re plugging and unplugging?

Nothing fancy, just Chris Hemsworth in a very nice suit who greets you with a brolly and a large latte. Oh, and pay per mile can get in the bin. Can I ask for two things?

Vicky Parrott

Without wishing to go all serious here, all I want for Christmas is for the government to exclude anyone who can’t charge at home from the 2028 pay per mile EV tax. The timing on this one has been terrible, and the mixed messaging between having a grant to incentivise purchasing an EV and a mileage-based tax is horribly confusing and unsettling for anyone considering an electric car.

But I’m not being unrealistic. I’m not saying it should be scrapped (although it should, for now at least...) but we’ve crunched the numbers and we know that anyone who’s charging routinely at public chargers will be paying as much – if not more – to run an EV than it would cost them to run an efficient petrol car. So, come on Rachel... how’s that helping the consumer to transition to EVs?!

Ginny Buckley

I agree with Vicky, it seems the must have gift at Electrifying towers this year is for the government to ditch the daft idea of introducing a pay per mile tax. It’s way too soon to bring it in.

Failing that, I’d quite like some proper signage for public charging. Much as I love a treasure hunt or a game of hide and seek, I’d rather not be playing 'hunt the charger' when I’m down to my last few miles of range, it’s dark and CarPlay’s having a wobble again. So, some signs to help me out, please Santa. And when Chris Hemsworth has finished helping Nicola out, can she send him my way with his brolly?

Nicki Shields

All I want for Christmas is access to a home charger! With no off-street parking and no money left in my pocket, I could really do with making the most of cheap overnight charging rates.

I’m hoping Kerbo Charge can help, they are pushing for cross pavement charging but it’s adopted at a council level and so far my local have said no – despite 81% of other councils in the country agreeing! Oh and re Chris Hemsworth – he is on my list (not my xmas list, the other list... the one you share with your husband just before you get married) so let’s make Nic’s wish come true!

By the way, I'm pretty sure this isn't Chris Hemsworth in this picture? Hmm. I am jealous of his cross-pavement charging, though.

Tom Barnard

I know they make it tricky for Father Christmas to land, but all I want for Christmas is some solar panels. And I don’t even expect them to be free – but I would like someone to make it all easy and assure me I’m not being ripped off by a smooth-talking man in a shiny suit.

So here’s what I suggest – the banks and building societies get together and agree on a programme which allows anyone with a mortgage to add the cost of the panels onto the loan at the same terms. It would be good for them as it adds to the value of the property.

And as long as the repayments are less than the savings you’d make in energy costs, everyone is a winner. Yes, I could do it myself now but it’s a lot of hassle – I just want someone to join up the dots and make it easy. I don’t know who Chris Hemsworth is, but maybe he could come and help me fill in the forms?

Sam Burnett

This is such a miserable time of year, I’m just desperate for it to be warm again. So all I’d like for Santa to arrange for me is a road trip to look forward to, preferably on the continent, preferably when the weather is much nicer, and preferably when everyone else is working.

A photographer I worked with years ago got me on to listening to local radio stations when I’m abroad, and I love getting snacks from local supermarkets and stopping at little cafes for a little something something. There doesn’t even have to be good charging, the longer I have to wait around the better. I don't want Chris Hemsworth coming along though, the guy weighs like 100kg, so he'd be terrible for efficiency. But yes, a roadtrip. Or world peace, or whatever.

James Batchelor

My, we’re a moany lot aren’t we? And I’m going to add to the festive cheer with some more grumblings. All I want for Christmas is an easy way to download a charging app and for it to actually work. Putting aside the fact that it seems like there are 487 different apps needed to charge a car these days, it would actually be nice that if in your moment of need the stars would align.

Take a recent trip to Wales, for example. It was remarkable that a deserted village had 22kW charging points, but, of course, I didn’t have the app to make the charging point work as it was from one of the most obscure providers. No problem, I thought, I’ll just download it... But, naturally, there was no 4G or free local wifi. I had a lovely day.

Batch is one of few Electrifying team members who didn't ask for Chris Hemsworth for Christmas. He just wants a charging app. Boring.
