Bonnet, the UK’s largest electric vehicle charging aggregator, is launching a new price plan from November 8th which offers discounts of 10%-15% from standard market rates instead of its previous prepayment model.
This is likely to result in more expensive charging for users however.
For £2 per month, Bonnet will offer a 10% discount on the charge provider’s standard rate under its ‘Light Boost’ payment plan. At a price of 60p/kWh this would mean a driver would break even after 33kWh.
For a subscription of £8 per month, Bonnet will guarantee a 15% discount on all their charging costs under its ‘Turbo Boost’ package. This would make sense for drivers needing to charge with more than 89kWh of energy a month.
The company is also offering a ‘Pay As You Go’ option which has no discount on the operators’ prices, but also has no additional cost. Some rival aggregators add a 10% service charge.
The move ends the company’s previous Bonnet Refill scheme, which involved drivers ‘pre-paying’ for energy and then locking in a set price per kWh. The maximum price was set at 50p/kWh for PAYG customers but ‘bulk buys’ of 200kWh per month brought prices down to 40p/kWh.
Bonnet is partnered with 20+ networks across Europe, including: ESB, Allego, Shell Recharge, Franklin, Alfa Power, Plug n Go, Fastned, Chargy, Connected Kerb, Osprey, EVBox, GeniePoint, Ionity, Source London, Total, EV Charge, EWE GO, Electric55 and Powerdot.
