BYD has announced pricing and trim details for its new Dolphin G plug-in hybrid supermini. 

The car comes with two flavours of electric powertrain, both working with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that generates electricity and occasionally powers the wheels. 

The smaller 7.4kWh battery option is only available on the entry level Active trim, and it manages 24.8 miles of electric range. It can only be charged back up at 3.3kW because of its diminutive size. 

That car starts the bidding at £23,990 for the Dolphin G and comes with LED headlights, electrically adjustable heated door mirrors, satnav, automatic aircon, rearview camera, 10.1in touchscreen infotainment plus Apple and Android connectivity. 

The Boost model is the next in the line-up and it upgrades to an 18.3kWh battery that manages a more impressive 65 miles of electric range and can be charged on an AC charger at 6.6kW. This powertrain also introduces the option of CCS fast charging, albeit at 39kW. 

The Boost costs from £26,990 and adds into the mix folding door mirrors, heated front seats, rear USB-C plugs, a larger 12.8in infotainment screen, ambient lighting and cooled wireless smartphone charging. 

The Comfort is the next car in the range, costing £28,490 and adding bigger wheels, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a 360-degree parking camera and Google built-in infotainment tech, which means Google Maps for your satnav and a host of other apps available through the Play Store. 

The top spec Sport trim costs £29,490 and has black 18in alloys that the other cars don’t enjoy, along with an artificial suede trim on the interior with accents that match one of the two available exterior colours, orange or blue. Exciting times. 

You can order the Dolphin G now from your friendly (we assume) local BYD dealer, with deliveries due to start in September.
