You can now buy a BYD Flash charger for your cat

BYD’s new Flash charger is quite possibly the future of super fast charging for electric cars, but it’s also fun for kids when no one’s charging on it – and now BYD has made it fun for the whole family by creating a cat bed shaped like the new 1.5MW chargers.

The cat bed, which went on sale at the beginning of the month in China and immediately sold out, has the familiar T-shape of the Flash chargers, complete with hanging toys that look like the charging cables.

The Chinese carmaker put the distinctive cat beds up for sale via its official WeChat channels for £10 each with free shipping, and China’s cats turned out to be very enthusiastic for the new merch.

BYD’s catchy slogan around the new Flash chargers says they’re “ready in five, full in nine”, which WeChat users have adapted for feline marketing purposes. If you listen to the comments, the new cat bed means cosy in five, asleep in nine.

And perhaps ultra rapid charging your cat means they’ll only sleep 10 hours a day.

The Flash beds are generously dimensioned for a snoozing moggy – 40cm wide at the base and 42cm tall including the top of the charging tower.

The product adverts on the BYD listings on WeChat promise a soft cushion, too, which should make for a relaxing sleep.

Electrifying editor Vicky Parrott went to BYD's UK headquarters to see the actual chargers in action back in June – and stayed awake the whole time as far as we're aware.

A second batch is about to go on sale in China, but there are no plans for the Flash charger cat beds to go on sale in the UK as far as we’re aware – they could turn out to be highly collectible if any of them make it to European shores.

The Flash chargers themselves should be more widely available in the UK very soon – BYD has promised to build 300 of them in the UK before the end of 2026, but it’s going to have to get its skates on if it’s going to meet that tough target. It already has more than 10,000 of the units open in China for customers of BYD and sub-brand Denza.
