The new i3 might have been controversial among hardcore BMW fans with its fresh Neue Klasse stylings and electric powertrain, but the new electric M3 that’s been confirmed for production in Munich is going to blow their socks off.

BMW’s Munich factory boss Peter Weber recently celebrated the millionth BMW M car coming off the line and let slip the preparations he and his staff are making for the (near) future, saying that they were getting ready to build the first fully electric BMW M3 at the site next to the company’s global headquarters.
We’ve already had a glimpse of the new car in the form of the M concept from earlier this year, but BMW has also sent out some pictures of the electric M3 in camouflage.

The similarities are such that at first glance you might think we’re looking at the concept car in a new livery, but there are enough tweaks and changes to point to the production version of the new M3 in disguise.
Some of the concept car excesses like the front splitter and fanciful bodywork have been toned down, and the rear end looks more like the standard i3 with some sporting upgrades.

We know a few technical details about the new M3 already – there will be a petrol version coming a year after the electric one goes on sale in mid-2027, the new car will have four e-motors producing somewhere in the region of 900hp, a battery bigger than 100kWh and the familiar 800V charging tech we’ve seen on the i3 and iX3 models that manages 400kW peak charging rates.
