The Hyundai Ioniq 3 just went on sale in the UK with £3,750 electric car grant

Good news – the Hyundai Ioniq 3 has officially gone on sale this week, better news – it has qualified for the full £3,750 Band 1 UK electric car grant, which is excellent considering we were only expecting it to get the £1,500 grant.

The hefty government discount means that the entry version of the Hyundai, the 42kWh Ioniq 3 Advance, starts from an impressive £18,495. That car is rated for 213 miles (344km) of WLTP range.

It’s a £3.5k jump to get into the bigger batteried version of the car, which comes with 62kWh and costs £21,995 for the same trim after the grant has been applied. That car manages 308 miles (497km) of WLTP range.

(What other cars are available with the UK government grant? Read our list of all the eligible cars...)

Interestingly, the 42kWh version can charge faster than the larger battery, with peak DC speeds of 119kW versus 110kW. The former gets from 10–80% in 29 minutes, but the larger battery takes a minute longer.

There’s 7kW AC charging as standard, with an optional upgrade to 11kW AC charging from the second trim up.

The smaller battery is only available in that entry level Advance trim, but comes with 16in alloys, a 12.9in touchscreen infotainment setup, dual-zone aircon, auto lights, wireless Apple and Android connectivity, rear parking camera and adaptive cruise control.

There are three more trims after that – Premium, Ultimate and N Line Evo.

The Premium version adds 17in wheels, a 9.9in digital instrument panel, auto wipers, wireless phone charging, electric door mirrors, privacy glass, optional V2L capability and heat pump, plus battery preconditioning and even seat back pockets for a £1,700 uplift. (The V2L, heat pump and 11kW AC charging are part of the £1,250 EV pack.)

The Ultimate upgrades you with 18in alloys, satnav on your infotainment, optional Bose sound system, heated front seats and steering wheel, fancier headlights, ambient interior lighting, air vents for the rear seats, rear centre armrest, fancier cruise control and reclining rear seats. This is all for £26,195.

For another £2k on top of that, N Line Evo bags you 19in alloys, a bigger 14.9in infotainment screen, 360-degree parking cameras, upgraded exterior styling, collision avoidance systems for parking and Hyundai’s fancy self-parking tech.

We’ve already had a look at the new Ioniq 3, so check out the review.
