Hyundai Ioniq 6 wins World Car of the Year 2023 award

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has scooped the top prize at the 2023 World Car of the Year awards at an event at the New York Auto Show.  This is the second year running that Hyundai has won the overall award, following the success of the Ioniq 5 last year.

The Hyundai was one of three final finalists, which were all electric or have electric versions and . The Ioniq 6’s success follows the 2022 win for the Hyundai Ioniq 5. 

The Ioniq 6 also took individual awards for its design and in the Electric Car category.

World Car of the Year - Hyundai Ioniq 6

World Electric Vehicle - Hyundai Ioniq 6

World Luxury Car-  Lucid Air 

World Performance Car- Kia EV6 GT

World Urban Car- Citroen C3

World Car Design- Hyundai Ioniq 6

The Person of the Year - SangYup Lee, Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Center.

The winners are decided following extensive testing from a team of more than 100 jurors from 33 countries, which includes Electrifying.com’s Ginny Buckley.

For the Design Award, a panel consisting of six highly respected world design experts was asked to first review each candidate, and then establish a short-list of recommendations for the jurors’ final vote. The design experts are in alphabetical order: Ian Callum, Gert Hildebrand, Patrick le Quément, Tom Matano, Victor Nacif and Shiro Nakamura.

The winners received new trophies designed by former Jaguar Design Chief Ian Callum.


Hyundai designer SangYup Lee also scooped an award
