Volvo's new EX60 comes with a whopping 503 miles of range (but not quite yet)

After a lengthy teaser campaign Volvo has finally revealed its new EX60 electric SUV, and the BMW iX3 (Electrifying’s current car of the year) will surely be quaking in its boots, because the new Volvo beats its impressive 500-mile range figure.

The new EX60 is built on an efficiency focused new platform that Volvo has developed for its electric cars, called SPA3, which the company says is “ready for continuous hardware and software improvement”.

We’ve already heard from the Swedish carmaker on some of the innovations it has introduced in terms of the car’s construction, where it has worked hard to make the EX60 lighter and more efficient.

The other interesting bit is that Volvo says the EX60 is fitted with Google’s latest virtual assistant, Gemini, which you can have ‘natural conversations’ with. Gemini will apparently help you with ideas for your road trip or tell you whether something you want to buy will fit in the boot (smash cut to the on board computer shouting “Pivot!” as you try and get a new Ikea sofa inside).

There are three powertrain variants on offer – P6 RWD, P10 AWD and P12 AWD – with 385, 410 and 503 miles of WLTP range available. The last one means you could get from London to Volvo’s Gothenburg HQ in Sweden with just the one charging stop.

Each powertrain will come with a different battery size – with 80kWh, 91kWh and 112kWh usable capacities respectively.

Peak charge rate will be 320kW for the entry battery and 370kW for the bigger packs, which means the P12 will charge from 10–80% in 19 minutes, with 211 miles of range added in just 10 minutes on a 400kW charger.

The EX60 comes with bidirectional charging as standard, capable of discharging at up to 22kW, which makes it a good choice if you have the capability at home.

A 20mm taller version of the car will be available – the EX60 Cross Country. It will get the P10 and P12 powertrains and comes with air suspension as standard.

The EX60 range will start with Plus and Ultra trims, and Volvo says that a Core trim line will arrive later on. The EX60 is available to order now, with P6 and P10 models being delivered from the summer and P12 versions arriving with customers later in the year.

Ginny has already been to have a look at the new Volvo EX60 – click here to see what she thinks of the new Volvo. Hopefully she was able to find the door handles, at least.

Standard EX60 or the full fat Cross Country with a bit of extra cladding? We could be tempted...
