Does Kia have a spy in its ranks, or is this a well-timed circulation of artfully draped photos ahead of the launch of the new PV7?

No, these are official teaser shots of the new electric MPV/van ahead of its proper reveal at a trade show in Hannover in a couple of weeks. 

We’re quite excited about the new PV7 – we really rather like its smaller PV5 Passenger sibling and its Cargo version, the former of which is about to become even more compelling in its seven-seater guise with deliveries starting in October – and it looks set to carry on with everything that has made the smaller model interesting. 

The PV5 comes with 51.5kWh and 71.2kWh battery options (those are the gross figures, not usable, for some reason Kia is shy about sharing, but we reckon around 46kWh and 67kWh usable), but the PV7 is likely to come with a larger range-topping battery for better range figures, and probably the 71.2kWh powertrain as more of an urban range option. 

The PV7 will be a rival to Ford’s E-Transit Custom and should eventually come in a whole assortment of configurations, including passenger and cargo versions. The PV5 introduced a factory built wheelchair accessible version that should hopefully translate into the larger model too. 

The vans are part of Kia's PBV (platform beyond vans) range, that was teased with a range of concepts back in 2024. 

Kia is also said to be considering further factory built versions of the PV7, including plain chassis, crew cab and camper van options. 

The PV7 will come with V2L capability – where you can power or charge electronics off the vehicle battery – for maximum practicality.

There’s no word on price yet from Kia, we’d expect those details in a couple of weeks, but we reckon the PV7 will start from around £40,000.
