Rolls-Royce reveals new Spectre Series II – more range, added craftsmanship

Rolls-Royce has revealed an updated version of its Spectre electric tourer – the car has only been on sale since 2023 so it’s more of a refresh to keep the car selling, but with Rolls being posh it’s calling the car the Spectre Series II.

The big news for luxury electric car fans is that the Spectre has 18% more range – it’s now rated for 390 miles of WLTP range – and charge times have been cut by 14%.

Power has also been boosted to 601hp (up from 585hp) for a more urgent waft to the Spectre’s progress.

R-R says that the changes to the range and charging time are as a result of the battery cells being “re-engineered” – who knows what that actually means.

We do know that the BMW i7 facelift was revealed in April with a 20% more energy dense battery sporting the same 102kWh as before thanks to some tinkering by Croatian outfit Rimac. Rolls-Royce would never be so louche as to kiss and tell, but we know that it uses the same packs.

Being bigger, heavier and less slippery through the air than the BMW accounts for the 62-mile difference in range.

Likewise, Rolls-Royce hasn’t said anything about charging times, but the i7 has benefitted from a 50kW boost to 250kW charging for a 10–80% charge time of less than 30 minutes.

The Series I version of the Spectre has been selling for around £330,000, but we can expect that to increase with the new Series II – no word on what you might be expected to pay for the new car yet.

So while Rolls-Royce might leave out the useful information when it presents its new cars, we can at least appreciate that the new 23in forged alloy wheels have been finished by hand for six hours each.

The austere British carmaker is also happy to let us know that the new perforated leather on the headrest and shoulders of the seats have 78,138 holes in three different sizes (who had to count those?).

We must have blinked and missed the changes to the outside of the car, but when you’re already making something so good why mess with perfection?
