The first electric four-wheel-drive Jeep has just gone on sale in the UK – the Jeep Compass 4XE comes with a twin-motor setup. 

This third-generation version of the car has been on sale since 2025, but has been newly upgraded to four-wheel drive. 

The front motor is the more powerful, producing 213hp and the rear motor 179hp for a combined total under your right foot of 375hp. The 0–62mph run has had several seconds knocked off, now taking a perky 4.9secs. 

This Jeep has come in for some criticism since it went on sale for not offering an electric option that meets the brand’s lofty 4x4 heritage, but that’s all water under the bridge now (wading depth 480mm).

The new version of the Compass comes with an impressive 372 miles of range from its 96.3kWh battery, and will be offered in two high-spec trims, Upland and Overland. 

Prices start from £45,200 for the Upland, rising to £47,900 for the fancier Overland model, just missing the £50k expensive car supplement threshold. 

The Upland comes with black 19in alloys, off-roading tyres, special bumpers for better ground clearance, a rear towing hook, fog lights, LED headlights and a heated windscreen. 

You also get heated seats and a heated steering wheel inside, front and rear parking sensors, a heat pump as standard and 11kW three-phase AC charging. 

The Overland adds fancier alloys, LED matrix headlights, a light-up Jeep grille and privacy glass, plus a fancier interior upholstery treatment, electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, ambient cabin lighting and a rear parking camera. 

The 96kWh battery will charge at up to 160kW on a CCS rapid charger, which Jeep says will get the car from 20–80% charge in 31 minutes. 

The Compass 4XE is also rated to tow 1,300kg, which is a 70kg improvement on the entry level two-wheel drive version of the car. 

The 4XE is on sale now in addition to the two-wheel drive version of the car, which starts from £36,999. 

That car comes with a Standard Range version that has a 76.3kWh battery and a WLTP range of 310 miles, or a Long Range version that uses the same 96.3kWh battery as the 4XE and manages 418 miles without the efficiency sapping four-wheel-drive setup. 

Deliveries of the new 4XE model, which is being built at a Stellantis factory in Italy, are expected to begin before the end of 2026.
