Jeep is America’s equivalent of Land Rover but it’s more important than that. It wasn’t so much founded but purely set up to build a light reconnaissance off-road vehicle for the US Army in the Second World War, and created a type of car all others have copied since. Jeep’s Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models are its most famous, but in recent years the brand has added models that sway more towards fashion than purely agricultural purposes with the Renegade being a perfect example. Jeep is well on the path of electric 4x4s with a plug-in hybrid Renegade 4xe already on sale in the UK and plug-in hybrid versions of the Compass mid-size SUV and Wrangler 4x4 on their way too.
