The government has left a little something in Kia’s stocking just before Christmas – two of its electric vehicles have just been added to the rapidly expanding list of cars that are eligible for the government’s plug-in electric car grant.
Kia says that the EV4 Air and PV5 Essential and Plus trims have been given Band 2 status by the government, which means that they are eligible for a £1,500 discount. They’re the first models from Kia to be made eligible. (You can check out our full list of eligible cars here...)
There are strict rules attached to the electric car grant, and a length application process is involved. To be eligible, EVs have to among other things sit under a £38k list price, offer over 100 miles of range and come with an eight-year warranty on the battery. There is a larger Band 2 award given to cars that have the smallest manufacturing footprint, aimed at boosting cars built in the UK and Europe.
The discount applies to the Standard and Long Range EV4 Air entry models, which currently start from around £35k. The whole of the current PV5 range is covered by the Essential and Plus trim lines, and the electric MPV starts from £33k according to the latest prices from Kia.
Electrifying named Kia our EV Brand of the Year in our recent awards – it’s not hard to see why when comparing the offering of the boldly designed and fancy family hatchback in the form of the EV4 and the more practical, yet still just as stylish PV5, which is priced especially strongly. There are up to 17 different versions of the innovative PV5 on the way, though not all of those will benefit from the additional electric car grant help.
Kia has also announced a range of other details and finance promotions across its combustion and electric range, meaning there’s a little something for everyone just before Christmas.
