Kia reveals more of new EV9 7-seater with new teaser images

Kia’s hotly anticipated EV9 MPV has been teased (yet again) in a series of official images released by the South Korean brand. The two pictures, which show the new grille and the roofline of the new seven-seater give a hint as to how the final production version will look when it is revealed later this month.

I’ve already seen the car at a top secret preview in Korea and we’ll have a video and full review coming soon. If you want to be the first to know when the embargo breaks make sure you subscribe to our youtube channel to receive a notification when that video lands.

The EV9 is one of nine new electric cars the Korean company will launch between now and 2027 and joins the award winning all electric EV9 and Niro electric in its existing lineup.

The images confirm that many of the striking elements of the 2021 concept version have been carried over to the series production model. They include the distinctive pixellated lighting pattern on the front grille and vertical matrix headlights. The side image shows that Kia has stuck with the crisp shoulderline of the concept, although the roofline appears to be lower and more aero-friendly than that of the show car.

No technical details have been confirmed by Kia, but previous announcements and information sent to customers earlier this year have given a clear picture of the specification Kia is likely to introduce.

The 4.9m SUV will be the next model built on the brand’s new electric car structure, which is also shared with Hyundai. It’s expected to have bigger battery than the EV6, and a range of around 300 miles on the WLTP cycle. In a mailing to customers in America last January, Kia appeared to confirm that it will offer a standard and a long range version with ranges of 220 and 290 miles respectively. It's unclear if these figures are estimates, or if they are representative of the EV9's official range under the American EPA standard, which generally yields less generous results than the WLTP regime electric cars are tested under in Europe.

The price of the car could start from around $56,000 (roughly £45,000), for a basic version capable of around 220 miles on a single charge, with a long range version claiming 290 miles. Elsewhere, high performance versions with around 400bhp could also be on the cards, with seating for six in full-size seats. The very fastest EV9 could be capable of 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds.
