Motor Fuel Group (MFG) has reached a major EV infrastructure milestone with the completion of its 1,000th ultra-rapid charging bay under the MFG EV Power banner, just four years after it began rolling out the network. At launch in 2021, UK’s largest independent forecourt operator announced plans to have 500 sites in operation by 2030 – a target it is on course to meet.
MFG EV Power now accounts for around 12% of all ultra-rapid public chargers in the UK, including a significant presence within the M25, where it holds approximately 20% of the market. These chargers are located across 170 hubs nationwide, with more being added at a rate of over 20 bays per week.
The company first entered the EV charging sector in March 2021 and has set its sights on installing a total of 3,000 ultra-rapid chargers, ranging from 150kW to 400kW by the end of the decade. It also plans to bring EV facilities to all viable locations within its 1,200-site portfolio by 2035, including the former Morrisons forecourt network it acquired in 2024.
As part of this expansion, MFG is developing 300 charging hubs in Morrisons supermarket car parks. It has so far fitted 66 ultra-rapid bays at supermarket sites, with another 150 due in the next three months. Once complete, Morrisons will offer one of the most extensive public charging networks of any UK supermarket.
MFG’s approach focuses on high-powered, multi-bay charging hubs, designed for ‘on-route’ convenience. With more than 150 sites located inside the M25 and around 90% of its portfolio owned freehold, MFG is aiming to futureproof its charging infrastructure.
The brand's expansion highlights the rapid build-out of the rapid charging network in the UK, which continues to grow at a fast pace. Figures from ZapMap show that 16,698 rapid chargers were operational by the end of June 2025 with around 400 new units being added every month.
