Looking for a new EV to keep on your yacht or drive around your Caribbean island? Yeah, it’s a problem for us too. Luckily Moke International has unveiled an upgrade of its classic beach car at the Paris motor show – and it has more than double the range.
The Moke is a remake of the 1960s classic with was based on the original Mini and made famous by The Prisoner TV series. Although it achieved cult status, the completely open bodywork makes it less than ideal in rainy Britain, but Mokes are enjoyed in sunnier and more glamorous locations.

Moke International took over production in 2018, using petrol power, and switched to electric in 2022. The Mk2 version features a higher capacity 23.5kWh battery, delivering a claimed range of 106 miles. That’s not much compared to most modern EVs but is a big improvement on the previous model’s 50 miles.
Charging is by a 6.6kW onboard charger, meaning it is possible to charge the battery from 20% to 80% capacity in two hours. There is no rapid option. The new Moke's charging port has been relocated from the side pods to the rear of the vehicle for a more discreet appearance.

The Moke doesn’t have any more poke though, as it is powered by the same 33 kW electric motor – that’s just 45hp – which will get you up to a maximum of 50mph on the way to the beach or marina.
Buyers are also being given a wider range of colours and personalisation options, while there is a new 86-litre lockable front storage compartment to keep your swimming trunks and flip flops safe. A rotary gear selector and improved warning light visibility have also been incorporated inside.
No UK prices have been announced, but it is not expected to rise substantially from the current £36,200 level, which is about the same as the daily running costs of a 300ft super yacht to park it on.
