New Porsche Macan GTS: prices, specs and pics

The new Porsche Macan Electric GTS has been revealed. The Macan was already one of the best options if you wanted an electric SUV with proper handling finesse and driver reward, and now the new GTS model takes that to another level. It brings extra power, sharper handling, and that all-important dose of driver engagement, without treading on the toes of the range-topping Macan Turbo.

Priced from £89,000, the Macan Electric GTS costs a similar amount to rivals like the Polestar 3 Performance and the Lotus Eletre. It gets two electric motors – one at each axle, for active all-wheel drive – but with a more powerful rear motor to create a rear-biased feel. Together they produce 516hp, or 571hp with the overboost function activated. That translates to 0–62mph in just 3.8 seconds, 0–124mph in 13.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. For context, the Macan 4S manages a 4.1-second 0–62mph time, while the Turbo goes all out for a 3.3-second sprint.

Porsche’s engineers have fine-tuned the chassis on the Macan Electric GTS to make sure that it lives up to the GTS' reputation as the serious driver's choice in any Porsche lineup. The air suspension sits 10mm lower than in the standard Macan Electric, while tweaked damper and anti-roll bar settings promise more agility and precision.

An electronically-controlled differential lock helps with traction and handling fun, as does the standard-fit Torque Vectoring Plus and Sport Chrono package (the latter of which brings a special Track Mode that even optimises battery cooling and power delivery for more consistent lap times).

Despite its performance focus, the Macan GTS still manages a 363 mile WLTP range from the 95kWh NMC battery (the same battery that you get in the other Macan Electric models), and 800-volt charging allows for 270kW rapid charging and a 10–80% top-up in around 21 minutes.

Of course, Porsche hasn't left the GTS without some styling pizzaz to set it apart; you can identify the GTS by its reshaped bumpers, side skirts and 21-inch alloys, and if that's not enough of a statement you can even go for bigger, 22-inch RS Spyder Design wheels as as an option. Carmine Red remains the signature GTS colour, but there's also the new Lugano Blue, while Porsche’s Paint to Sample programme opens up nearly 60 more shades.

Inside, there’s a heavy use of Race-Tex – Porsche’s suede-like alternative to Alcantara – covering everything from the seats and steering wheel to the dashboard and doors. The adaptive 18-way Sports Seats promise to be rather brilliant, too.

And because sound still matters in an EV, the Macan GTS comes with two unique drive soundtracks – one each for Sport and Sport Plus modes – to add to the sense of drama when you’re pushing on. Still fancy that Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
