The electric Peugeot E-T16 Concept has been revealed at Paris motor show 2026, and it gives us the best look yet at what to expect from the next generation Peugeot E-208. Fans of the cult classic Peugeot 205 GTi won’t be surprised that this new E-T16 Concept has a seriously sporty attitude, as it’s also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 205 T16 double WRC win.

So Peugeot isn’t holding back on the performance with the E-T16 Concept – it’s the most powerful Peugeot ever! Developed with the Peugeot Sport team, the E-T16 gets 816hp courtesy of three electric motors – one at the front and two at the rear. It also weighs around 1,600kg, which makes for power-to-weight of under 2kg per hp, all of which helps it get to 186mph in 16 seconds. Which is impressive by any performance car standards, never mind those of an electric hot hatch!
It also keeps the Hypersquare steering wheel and fly-by-wire steering (which has no mechanical steering connection) that I tried out in the Peugeot Polygon Concept that also showcased a lot of the style cues that Peugeot’s design team have hinted will appear on the next generation E-208.

There are some really cool style aspects on the T-16. I love the charging ports, which are hidden in the ‘air intake’. And I do rather like the Winchester Matte Grey body colour that also harks back to the 205 T16. For the final motorsport flourish, the whole rear of the car’s body work lifts up to reveal the motors an suspension.
Take note of the new light signatures on the T-16, as that part of this extrovert concept could well be a key feature on the new Peugeot E-208 when it arrives in early 2028.

What’s the Peugeot E-T16 Concept like inside?
Peugeot has said that the E-T16’s interior is a glimpse of the future E-208. The Hypersquare steering wheel is a focal point, which further suggests that Peugeot will offer its fly-by-wire steering on the E-208 - albeit probably as an option. The curved, 21-inch touchscreen could also be a key feature on the next 208, although I suspect the carbonfibre bucket seats may be reserved for this rather special motorsports-inspired concept.
I drove a prototype of the Peugeot fly-by-wire steering system and Hypersquare wheel, which you can read all about right here.

What’s the range on the Peugeot E-T16 Concept, and what will range be on the 2028 Peugeot E-208?
Peugeot has shoehorned an 85kWh battery into the E-T16, which is good for a WLTP range of 248 miles. That’s not very efficient, at all, but that’s the price you pay for having over 800hp! It’s interesting that the T-16 has a similar range to the current Peugeot E-208, as I spoke to Peugeot’s CEO, Alain Favey, at the Polygon concept event, and he suggested that range on the next 208 wouldn’t be radically different: “The new Peugeot E-208 will have to have at least the same range as the current 208, but people are also becoming more used to electric cars and the range that they need, so it wouldn't make sense for the 208 to have really long range."
While the 2028 Peugeot E-208 isn’t going to have an 85kWh battery, I suspect it will have this kind of range. It does seem that 250 miles is a sweet spot for affordability and usability in small EVs like this, especially with the charging infrastructure improving all the time.
The rear lights and wide haunches of the E-T16 are a clear nod to the original Peugeot 205 T16 rally car
