Raft of cars added to electric car grant list

There are four new additions to the UK government’s electric car grant list and they all get £1,500 off their RRPs.

The electric car grant was introduced back in 2025 and features an ever expanding list of cars eligible for the Band 1 (£3,750) and Band 2 (£1,500) discounts.

Ford Explorer: Band 2 (£1,500)

We drove the current Ford Explorer back in October 2024 and were very impressed, handing it a score of 8/10. Vicky was a big fan of its surprisingly fun driving dynamics, smart looks and plentiful equipment.

Being based on the same MEB platform as the Volkswagen ID.4 means that it already starts from a good base but Ford was surprisingly good at making the Explorer its own, despite the haptic steering wheel buttons that remain.

Ford Capri: Band 2 (£1,500)

The Capri shares the same MEB platform as the Explorer. It has a solid WLTP range at 389 miles as well as a similarly smart interior and impressive set of standard equipment.

We were, however, a little underwhelmed by the looks. It’s not exactly what we’d hoped for when we heard the Capri was making a return. Names aside though, it’s still not exactly the most characterful thing to look at, is it?

Jeep Compass: Band 2 (£1,500)

The Compass offers a unique flavour to the small electric SUV segment. It aims to feel unmistakably ‘Jeep’ despite sharing a platform with numerous other Stellantis vehicles. We felt it succeeded in that department; its butch styling sets it apart from its stablemates. It also offers decent interior space and some modest off-roading capabilities.

It’s not the most efficient though, its 97kWh battery nets the Compass a maximum WLTP range of just 404 miles. Enough to get you to plenty of places on a single charge, but not particularly impressive considering the size of its battery.

Cupra Raval: Band 2 (£1,500)

It’s safe to say we’re big fans of the new Cupra Raval. It’s based on the same MEB+ platform as the also-new Volkswagen ID.Polo and brings with it the same strong range and smart interior packaging.

Better yet, the Raval also brings some fun to the table. The hot VZ version packs 220hp and a limited-slip differential for maximum back road driving pleasure. Whether it’s the aggressive styling, smart interior or excellent driving characteristics, there’s something for everyone in the Cupra Raval.

These four examples are only the tip of the electric car grant iceberg. So if you’re considering getting a new EV with a discount of up to £3,750, be sure to check out our regularly updated list where you can find links to reviews on all the eligible cars.
