Do you love the Renault 5 E-Tech as much as we do? If so, we’ve got some great news for you. One of our favourite small EVs has had an update to make it even better.

The new 2027 Renault 5 will benefit from a number of incremental improvements that aim to keep it at the top of the small EV market. Most notably, Renault has implemented improved aerodynamics and battery electronics which improve driving efficiency. As a result, WLTP range has increased to 197 miles for the 42kWh battery and 259 miles for the 52kWh model. Those are improvements of 3-4 miles each, but we’ll take improved efficiency in any form.

A new SmartMode setting has also been added and aims to improve the driving experience by automatically switching modes between Eco, Comfort and Sport based on the driver’s inputs and the car’s speed. That does, unfortunately, mean that the button normally used to change modes the old-fashioned way has been removed from the steering wheel and now the only way to manually change driving mode is through the central screen or by voice command. Boo.

The updated Renault 5 also gets styling upgrades. On the outside there are two new paint colours to choose from including Flame Red and Shadow Grey, while Midnight Blue on the Techno and Iconic trims now get a contrasting red roofline. Inside, there’s new mottled blue upholstery in place of the old yellow cloth. Are we the only ones who liked the cheerful yellow finish? 

Finally, tech is another point of improvement for the 2027 Renault 5. There’s a new Qi2 wireless charger (more commonly known by Apple’s MagSafe brand name) which uses magnets to hold your compatible phone in place for optimum wireless charging and device security. It's cooled, too, to prevent your phone from overheating. Say goodbye to flimsy rubber trays that don't keep your phone in place! Hurrah! 

Gemini AI-powered voice control will also now feature in the Renault 5 MY27, and will be available as an over-the-air download to complement the native Google system with more natural voice commands. 

Otherwise, the range remains the same with the entry-level 40kWh Urban Range Renault 5 MY27 coming in evolution trim, while the 52kWh Comfort Range will continue to be offered in techno+, iconic five+ and Roland Garros+. 

Another thing that isn’t changing for the 2027 Renault 5 is the price. The updated 5 will still start at just £21,495 after the full £3,750 electric car grant. Order books open today, so get on that configurator and get your new MY27 Renault 5 ordered.
