The Renault Scenic E-Tech is the latest EV to be given the hallowed status of Band 1 for the UK government’s electric car grant, which means a neat £3,750 off the list price.
The Scenic is the third Renault to achieve Band 1 status after the Renault 5 and Renault 4 models, which are assembled in the same Electri-city super factory near Lillle as the Scenic.
The electric car grant is intended to provide an incentive for buyers to go electric, but also has a mystical environmental component where the government gives cars a score based on various criteria, such as where components are sourced, how the cars are manufactured and whether they are made in China.

The 5 is only eligible for the full £3,750 on one of its battery sizes – the 52kWh cars get the big discount, while the smaller 40kWh are only entitled to £1,500 off. The 4 is available with the smaller battery in other markets, but the ECG imbalance has killed off any chance of it being sold in the UK.
Renault says that the Scenic finally got its Band 1 badge after supplier LG was able to confirm that the car’s 87kWh battery packs are assembled in Poland using 100% renewable electricity.
Prices for the Renault Scenic E-Tech range now start from £33,245 in Techno trim, with the mid-range Techno Esprit Alpine costing £36,245 and the Iconic Esprit Alpine topping out the range from £38,245. The Scenic is rated for up to 381 miles of range.
