Stellantis has shown off a new electric car platform designed for larger models, and which is claimed offer up to 500 miles from a single charge.

The appropriately named 'STLA Large' platform is one of four architectures Stellantis plans to use on EVs across its large portfolio of car brands. STLA Medium was revealed last year while 'Small' and 'Frame' are due at a later date.

The automotive giant said STLA Large will offer up 500 miles of range from an 118kWh battery, come in 400- and 800-volt forms, have efficiency of 4.5kWh per minute and offer 0-62mph performance in two seconds. It also claimed it's the 'most flexible BEV-native' platform in the industry.

The platform's flexible design will allow it to underpin a wide variety of Stellantis group products, from saloons to large SUVs. It's planned that eight EVs will use the platform by 2026, including the recently teased Jeep Wagoneer S and new models from Alfa Romeo and Maserati.

Carlos Tavares, Stellantis CEO, said. “Our goals for our STLA platforms are ambitious but this is what our customers need from us today. Creating a family of vehicles from a well-engineered set of components that is flexible enough to cover multiple vehicle types and propulsions, overperforming any of our current products, will address each of our iconic brands’ customers.

"The flexibility and agility of this platform is its hallmark and will be a driving force for our success in the shift to electrification in North America.”
