Tesla is planning to introduce the ultimate charging hub, complete with two-floor diner, drive-in cinemas screens and 29 Supercharger stations as it looks to provide more entertainment for drivers. Although boss Elon Musk announced the idea in 2018, the final planning applications for the Hollywood, California site has only just been submitted.

The American brand originally planned to build the diner/chargehub at a site in Santa Monica, but progress ground to a halt following a number of regulatory issues. Although the site was developed as a Supercharger site, the diner plans were removed from the final planning application. 

Under new plans, Tesla will now build the structure on a newly-acquired site in Hollywood and has already filed a planning application with the city authorities. The documents reveal that the site will have a semi-circular, two-storey diner two banks of V3 superchargers.

While the application only lists the individual features, the site has been envisioned by architectural expert Ed Howard, who has created a series of highly detailed renders. The images, which were revealed in a twitter post, show how the retro diner might look once complete. Although the final look and styling has been interpreted from the plans, the end result has the potential to make the Tesla diner one of the most glamorous charging locations in the world. The name ‘Milliways’ comes from cult novel The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, where it was known as the ‘Restaurant at the End of the Universe’. In a Twitter post revealing the images, Howard suggested that he chose the name Milliways because the site would be the 'Restaurant at the End of ICE.' 

The renders combine modern with classic design elements, along with two vast cinema screens that will be visible from both banks of superchargers. The restaurant features outdoor seating at ground level and on the roof, along with bamboo cladding on the exterior walls to isolate the site from neighbouring properties. 

No date has been set by Tesla for an opening of the site.
