Good news for anyone hoping to get a new car in the new year - the current long waiting lists are starting to shrink, according to one industry boss. 

Guy Pigounakis, MG’s Commercial Director, says supply from factories starting to show signs of matching customer demand, both for his brand and some rivals. It means some cars are now available from stock and more vehicles due to arrive in the UK in early 2023.   

MG has 8,500 cars arriving in next five weeks, which will mean the brand’s dealers will have around 7,000 cars in stock once existing orders have been fulfilled. Not all of these are electric but many will be. This will change the dynamic of the market, says Guy: “It will be interesting to see how much the market has grown in October, I suspect we will soon see a change from the current situation where there is more demand than supply to a situation where some manufacturers will be trying to push stock once again in the new year." 

Besides having stock on the way, MG is poised for even more impressive growth in 2023. The company has already surpassed its 2021 sales total and is outselling Skoda, Citroen, Honda, Land Rover and MINI. It is now snapping at heels of Peugeot and could soon be a top 10 selling brand in the UK. 

Guy believes the MG4 will sell comfortably into five figures in 2023 and the new MG5 has more than 1,000 orders already, many from company fleets. The company’s bigger issue is getting supply of the ZS EV, which still has a waiting list of longer than a year. 

MG is also due to reveal the production version of the Cyberster roadster in the middle of 2023 which is expected to "change perception" of the brand.
