Peugeot has given us a final tantalising glimpse of the new GTI hot hatch version of its E-208 before its official reveal – we already saw a concept version of the car back in 2025. 

Full details on the new car are going to be unveiled by Peugeot boss Alain Favey on Friday at the circuit where the Le Mans 24-Hour Race is set to take place this weekend. 

The race will be the 100th anniversary of Peugeot’s first time racing in the iconic 24-hour event, and Peugeot plans to show off its new hot hatch in patriotic shades of red, white and blue to honour the occasion. 

The GTI is set to use the standard E-208’s 51kWh battery, but it’ll have a lick more power to ensure acceleration speeds worthy of that GTI badge. We’ve been told to expect a smidge under 300hp and some trick performance kit like a limited slip differential to help get round the corners. 

The new E-208 GTI is going to have to be fast – not merely in terms of acceleration, but getting into showrooms, because Peugeot is expected to reveal its next-generation E-208 at the Paris motor show in October before the new car goes on sale in 2027. 

We’ve already had a sneaky glimpse of what that car might look like thanks to the Polygon concept that Nicola had a look at back in February. 

The new E-208 will get bolder looks, bigger batteries and some interesting interior design choices if the concept car is anything to go by. 

In the meantime, we’ll be out enjoying the E-208 GTI while we can. It’s going to have some stiff competition – Volkswagen has just launched the GTI version of its new electric Polo, and Vauxhall has the Corsa GSE on the way that shares many of the same underpinnings as the Peugeot.
