MG’s approach to technology is to make it usable and easy to get to grips with, so the tech in its latest models such as the MGS5 EV will enhance your experience and safety without making you feel out of your comfort zone.
The MGS5 EV’s technology hub is centred around a centrally positioned 12.8-inch High Definition touchscreen. To make it seem instantly familiar to anyone with a smartphone or tablet, it comes with wireless connection to Apple CarPlayTM and Android AutoTM.
Wire free
It’s not just the data connection which is wire free. The wireless mobile phone charger* will keep your compatible phone’s battery topped up without the need to plug in, keeping the dashboard free of cables. It’s finished in a suede style material for extra style, and to keep it safe on the move.
Even without connecting to your devices the MGS5 EV’s infotainment will run apps including You Tube, Spotify and TikTok* – perfect for keeping you entertained while waiting for the kids.
While we are all used to using touchscreens to control tech, there are times when you just need to find the right option quickly – especially while you’re driving. Feedback from MG customers proved that drivers like some functions to remain ‘in the real world’ - something we’re also a fan of at Electrifying.com - so the MGS5 EV has easily-accessible physical buttons to control the often-used features such as the audio, heater, hazard warning lights and demisting. There is also a Home Button which takes you quickly back to the main menu.
Keeping you appy
The clever connectivity will also help you stay in control when you are outside of your MG. Using an app called MG iSMART, you’ll be able to interact with your car to make driving more convenient.
The package includes the ability to check if the MGS5 EV is locked and secure it if needed. Or if your other half is waiting in the rain and you are still five minutes away you can unlock the doors to save arguments and soggy shopping.
The app will also remind you where you parked, pre-start the climate control ahead of your journey, create downloadable travel plans and check key information from the car such as the range remaining, battery charge status and even the tyre pressures.
Safe, not sorry
Once you are on the move, MG Pilot keeps you safe with assistance systems which are engineered to help the driver react to potentially dangerous situations. For example, it uses radar and camera sensors to keep an eye on your blind spots and will even apply the brakes if the car in front stops suddenly while you are looking away – such as when following a car onto a roundabout or pulling out of a parking space.
Not all drivers appreciate the driver assistance systems though, so the MGS5 EV features an MG Pilot Custom function, enabling them to be customised and the preferred options stored. This is easily accessible in the menu and can be reconfigured with new preferences if the driver wishes.
