Take the new MGS6 EV as an example. Every model features a High Definition 10.25” Driver Display which shows essential vehicle information, while Trophy models also have a sophisticated Head Up Display. This projects the car’s speed and other data, including navigation guidance, onto the lower part of the windscreen to give the driver instant access to information without needing to take their eyes off the road. It’s configurable too, so the driver can choose what they see.
Other controls and information are contained in a separate 12.8” infotainment touchscreen. Among many other features, this gives wireless connection to Apple Car Play and Android Auto, while Trophy models have built-in popular apps such as YouTube, Spotify, TikTok and Amazon Music.
MG is always responsive to customer feedback though, and knows that drivers don’t want to control every function through a touchscreen. For commonly used features which you use every day or might need to find while on the move with minimal distraction, the MGS6 EV has physical dials and buttons which are integrated into the central console. These control the ventilation and the audio volume, plus a simple ‘home’ button to get the screen back to the main menu and help you find what you need quickly.
Just below these switches, Trophy models come with a wireless phone charger, which has a built-in cooling vent to prevent your device from overheating. This allows it to top up the battery faster by supplying up to 50w, so you can arrive at your destination with plenty of power. The suede style finish in the tray also grips your phone to stop it sliding around while you drive – a thoughtful touch which also looks stylish.
You’ll want to keep your phone charged too, as you’ll be able to communicate with your car. MG’s innovative iSMART mobile app will ensure you’re always fully connected with your MGS6 EV even when you are not near it. MG iSMART enables you to precisely locate where you parked, check the remaining range and battery status or pre-condition the cabin to ensure it is at the perfect temperature ahead of any journey. That means you can bin the de-icer in winter and can maximise the range you use for driving by using power from the mains rather than using the battery’s reserves.
Once you are on the road, MG’s technology helps to keep you safe but ensures the driver is in control, with systems tuned for the UK’s unique roads. The MG Pilot suite of driver[CR2] assistance systems is fitted to every MGS6 EV and includes advanced features which are not even fitted to many cars costing twice as much, such as Lane Change Assist, Door Opening Warning and Active Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Along with a rigid bodyshell and seven airbags, it means that the MGS6 EV has joined all of MG’s other electric models and been awarded a top 5-star rating from the independent organisation Euro NCAP.
The MGS6 EV also features a MG Pilot Custom function to help drivers make the most of the safety features and tailor them to their individual preferences. First introduced on MGS5 EV, it allows drivers to customise favourite driver assistance settings and quickly restore the settings once the vehicle is restarted. Within two touches in the screen, the driver can activate the saved preferences, instead of having to change the functions one by one.
