Audi played it safe with its first electric car. It's simply another of its high quality, signature SUVs that happens to be powered by electricity. But its looking old and inefficient these days.

Ginny Says

“Many people will love the way the e-tron looks, it’s first and foremost a luxurious Audi SUV, but others will wish it makes more of a statement. Personally I fall into the latter camp, although I’m impressed by how refined and comfortable it is to drive.”

Tom Says

“Another one of those big-manufacturer EV SUVs that tries very hard not to offend. Not as sporty as a Jag iPace, the e-Tron is for Audi SUV owners who don’t want to be intellectually challenged. It’s a good car - just not a revolutionary electric SUV.”

Audi E Tron

Is Audi e-tron a good company car?

In a word, yes, as the zero rate tax on electric cars for company car drivers means it could save you thousands. For example, an Audi SQ5 is substantially cheaper to buy than the e-tron at £53,000 versus £63,000, but you’ll end up paying £7,868 in tax for the privilege of driving it – plus the extra for fuel supplied too.

Is the Audi e-tron a seven seater?

No, the Audi e-tron is strictly a five seater as the area under the boot where extra seats could be stored is filled with batteries.

Is the Audi e-tron a hybrid?

No, the Audi e-tron is a pure electric car with no petrol or diesel engine at all. Confusingly there were some Audi hybrid models (such as the A3) which used the e-tron name in the past, but these have now been rebadged and e-tron will just refer to pure electric models.

Will an Audi e-tron save me money?

Compared to a similarly-sized SUV with a diesel engine, the e-tron is more expensive to buy. But by going electric, your fuel costs will be roughly a quarter if you charge at home and you’ll save on road tax too. The biggest savings will come if you are a company car driver though - moving to an electric car could save you thousands.

What is the range of an Audi e-tron?

The Audi e-tron has a claimed range of up to 223 miles between charges. That should translate to a comfortable 180 miles in real-world driving.
