Hyundai looks to have another winner on its hands after confirming that all 2,500 launch First Edition models were snapped up by eager buyers in under 24 hours. The Korean brand opened online orders for the new model on 9 November, inviting British, German, Dutch, French and Norwegian buyers to secure their build slot.

Those lucky enough to secure a £54,995 First Edition will be the first to take delivery of Hyundai’s striking ‘streamliner’ stablemate to the IONIQ 5. The brand is launching the 6 in the same way it did with the 5 (with a limited edition model) and is expected to announce details and prices for the standard Premium and Ultimate models shortly. According to Hyundai, First Edition models will be delivered to customers between March and April next year, with standard models likely to follow in May.

The IONIQ 6 First Edition features a 77.4kWh battery with all-wheel drive powertrain to provide 320bhp of power and 605 Nm of torque. Thanks to its streamliner-inspired exterior design (which has a drag coefficient of just 0.21), the IONIQ 6 delivers a WLTP range figure of 320 miles.

First Edition comes with a black interior with a black headliner, while the standard relaxation seats incorporate Grey Tartan fabric inspired by Hyundai’s Prophecy EV concept

Based on the same underpinnings as the IONIQ 5, the 6 comes with an identical 800v charging system with the ability to charge at speeds of up to 230kW. The 6 is also equipped with a battery heating system, that has been designed to deliver optimised charge times in all conditions. As with the IONIQ 5, customers will be able to enjoy a free one-year subscription to IONITY Premium package, through Hyundai’s Charge myHyundai programme.

In terms of equipment, the IONIQ 6 First Edition features matt black 20-inch wheels, gloss black mouldings on the front, rear and side as well as gloss black mirror caps. Inside, the First Edition comes with a black interior with a black headliner, while the standard relaxation seats incorporate Grey Tartan fabric inspired by Hyundai’s Prophecy EV concept. The model is also equipped with dedicated First Edition floor mats with Grey Tartan highlights.

IONIQ 6 continues Hyundai’s drive towards greater sustainability. Eco-process leather and recycled PET fabrics are used in the seats, bio-TPO skin features on dashboard finishes while bio-PET fabric is used in the headliner. Finally, the floor mats made from ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon yarn that can be used to make sustainable products.

Thanks to its streamliner-inspired exterior design (which has a drag coefficient of just 0.21), the IONIQ 6 delivers a WLTP range figure of 320 miles
