Volkswagen has confirmed its ID.3 is now eligible for the ‘Level 2’ government grant, lopping £1,500 of the price and making the cheapest model £29,360. It’s the first VW model to be eligible, with other all-electric ID cars expected to follow in the next few weeks.
To qualify for the Government’s grant, Volkswagen is required to meet strict technical and sustainability standards. Not all ID.3s are covered though, with the sportier GTX models excluded for being too pricey. The eligibility covers eight different ID.3 variants:

The Cupra Born, which shares most of its components with the ID.3, is also covered in the official government scheme, although it doesn’t cover the hot VZ model.
Until its official approval, Volkswagen has offered has a "Grant Guarantee" scheme covering the ID.4 which will give customers the £1,500 off until the official grant kicks in. However, you can’t get both chunks of £1,500 off once the government approval arrives.
VW Group brand Skoda is also offering The "Grant Guarantee" to cover the Elroq and Enyaq, and offering £1,500 off until the official grant kicks in, which is expected imminently. The sportier vRS versions aren’t in the offer.
Commenting on the announcement, Rod McLeod, Director of Volkswagen UK, said: “Everyone at Volkswagen has been working hard for several years to increase the pace of electrification and help a broader base of buyers to be able to access and embrace all-electric motoring. The new Electric Car Grant from the Government supports this, and alongside competitive pricing and finance options, we are encouraging more drivers to make the switch to sustainable mobility.”
The ID.4 is expected to be eligible too, but VW will underwrite the discount until the Government announcement
