BMW has added a new entry level version of the iX3 to the range-tastic SUV’s range – this one doesn’t go 500 miles, but it’s £5,000 cheaper so there’s that.
We recently reported that BMW was having to increase production because demand for the iX3 had taken the firm by surprise, and this new version won't help matters at all.
The new car is called the iX3 40, and it comes with a 320hp e-motor and rear wheel drive. You might think the (relatively) cheap seats will lack performance, but you’ll still get from zero to 62mph in 5.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 124mph.

The iX3 40 gets an 82.6kWh usable battery capacity and has a maximum charging rate of 300kW thanks to the 800V technology, which means it can add 186 miles of range in 10 minutes, or get from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes. It also comes with 11kW AC charging and V2L as standard, with 22kW available as an option.
What’s that, what’s the actual range? Well, BMW iX3 fans, you’ll be pleased to know that you won’t have to suffer too much – the new entry version of our 2026 Car of the Year will still feature an incredibly impressive WLTP range of 395 miles.
The car is rated for 4.3 miles/kWh under WLTP too, which is impressive efficiency for a chunky SUV. The cheaper iX3 benefits from all the same tech advances and weight saving cleverness as the rest of the range, but it’s £5k cheaper.
BMW says that the iX3 40 will be available in the UK from this summer (you know, that period of time when it is supposed to be warmer and sunnier than other parts of the year) priced from £53,250.
