There must be something in the water at Genesis – the company has just unveiled its new flagship electric SUV and it’s gunning straight for the likes of Bentley and Range Rover.
The GV90 is the latest new reveal from Hyundai’s posh branch and it’s a gigantic luxury SUV with some fun features that will be sure to turn heads. We saw it a couple of years ago in concept form at the New York motor show.
The new SUV comes with a suitable ginormous 123.5kWh battery, which Genesis says it has tested internally on the seven-seater version and come up with a 311-mile range (500km) that will obviously be subject to official WLTP ratification. There’s 350kW charging that will get you from 10–80% in 22 minutes.
You’ve got front and rear electric motors and an electronic limited slip differential on both axles for four-wheel drive assurance. There’s rear-wheel steering for added agility and standard fit air suspension to make sure that the agility doesn’t bring your lunch up.

A particularly neat touch is what Genesis says is the world’s first roof airbag – it inflates to cover the panoramic glass roof in the event of a crash to make sure you don’t hurt yourself on the glass or fall out of the car.
A relatively modest 23.6in infotainment screen does the business up front, but Genesis says that when the car is parked up you can press the ‘screen extension’ button that lifts it up by 90mm and increases the size to a 24.6in display.
There are 25 Bang and Olufsen speakers sprinkled around the cabin, and Genesis says that the sound quality can be adapted at the prod of a screen to mimic the acoustics of the Boston Symphony Hall or Wembley Stadium.

If you need to get a quick impression of who the car is aimed at, Genesis says that the ambient lighting inside the GV90’s cabin “evokes the feeling of a private art gallery”. Which is rather assuming you have a positive reaction to a private art gallery.
And as another measure of how luxurious the car is, passengers in the front and second rows will benefit from little radiators that have been built into the door panels and arm rests to complement the heated seats.
There’s an even swisher version of the car called the GV90 Neolun that will really blow your mind – this version of the 5.3m-long car ditches the seven-seat layout in favour of just four luxurious perches.
Impressively, the front two seats swivel electronically when parked so that you can have lounge vibes inside the car, and even more impressive is the fact that the B-pillar is built into the rear-hinged back doors so that when you open up the GV90 Neolun you have cavernous unobstructed access to the cabin.

Rear passengers in the swankiest car get real wood flooring (bring your slippers), a fridge and tables that are integrated into the seats. It’s first class all the way in this car…
The GV90 is set to go on sale in 2027 in Korea first of all, but then sales will spread globally – including the UK. There’s no word on price yet, but we understand that the GV90 will slip comfortably into six figures. At least until you’ve had it a couple of weeks and the depreciation will slip it comfortably into five figures.
Is there even much call for a huge luxury electric SUV that exudes the “understated elegance of Korea’s traditional moon jar pottery”? Guess we’ll find out – it’s this or the new Range Rover Electric…
