Citroën is to bring a van version of its Ami electric micro car to Britain, making it the cheapest commercial vehicle on sale. The tiny plastic-bodied Ami could be perfect for urban deliveries, but has a relatively weedy 140kg maximum load weight and a capacity of 400-litres. Both are less than you’d expect in a small car, but it should still be plenty for florists, food delivery and small parcels.

UK versions of Ami Cargo will remain left-hand drive and will feature a seven-part cargo module in place of the passenger seat. There’s even a shelf next to the driver which can be converted into a desk.

Like the passenger version, the van has a 100%-electric range of up to 46 miles. It features a tiny 5.5kWh battery pack which can be fully charged in three hours via a three-pin socket.

The exact on sale date and pricing have yet to be announced but it's possible the Cargo could cost more than the passenger version, as with the commercial version of the rival Renault Twizy. 

The Citroen is expected to have a cost comparable to a larger scooter however at around £5,500 plus VAT - but is not expected to be eligible for electric vehicle grants as it is not considered a car or a motorcycle.

The Ami's main rival will be the Twizy, although the Citroen could be half the price
