New Ferrari interior looks a bit like something from Apple... and there's a good reason

It might look like Ferrari has knocked off the design of something from Apple for the dashboard design of its first full electric car, but that’s only because it actually hired former Apple designer Jony Ive to come up with the design.

The Italian supercar maker unveiled the interesting look in San Francisco in a nod to Ive and his LoveFrom design collective that’s been collaborating with Ferrari on the aesthetics of the car, which will be called the Luce.

The new name means ‘illumination’ in Italian, says Ferrari, and these first images of the interior are an illuminating hint that it’s not business as usual at Maranello when it comes to the launch of the company’s first electric car.

Ferrari says that “leading means illuminating the path ahead”, which is another reason for the name, though you’d have to imagine that a nice set of matrix LED headlights would do just as good a job.

We’re expecting the full reveal of the car to take place in May – in Italy this time – with the car set to cost somewhere in region of £500,000. It’ll have around 1,000bhp from four electric motors, so you’ll barely get a chance to prod the Apple Watch-style infotainment screen because you’ll be clinging on for dear life.

The rumours suggest that the car will be an SUV, which goes along with what we’ve seen so far and the Luce being a different flavour of Ferrari – something for the tech millionaires in San Francisco, perhaps.
