Geely isn’t just into fast charging, but fast deployment as well – turns out Geely has already installed its new chargers in five cities across China just days after revealing the new Smart charging tech that’s taking the fight to BYD’s Flash charging system.
Launching the tech and getting it deployed in less than a week shows how serious Geely is about taking the fight to BYD.
The Geely Smart charging system can get up to 2.2MW of electricity in a compatible electric car, while BYD’s Flash charging setup makes do with a mere 1.5MW.

But BYD takes the edge in the credibility stakes because it already has 10,000 of the plugs up and running throughout China. And it also only just revealed the tech a few months ago.
According to Chinese media, the Geely Smart charging tech has been installed in Hangzhou, Shanghai, Ningbo, Jiaxing and Xi’an.
The stations are categorised as ‘12C’ charging stations, which means that they can charge a car up at 12 times its battery capacity, with a peak voltage of 1,500V and peak current of 1,500A. Which is a lot.

Geely doesn’t yet have an EV capable of taking the Smart charger’s full capacity, but the Zeekr 001 and Lynk & Co 10 (above) models can both charge at a peak rate of 1,100kW, which they could both reach side by side on one of Geely’s new charging stations.
Both cars use Geely's new Golden Brick battery design, which is designed to take all the electricity you can throw at it.
Geely apparently has plans to install 15,000 Smart charging stations across China in 2026, with over 50,000 plugs.
The company has indicated that it plans to bring lesser power ultra-rapid charging to Europe in the form of 1,000kW stations that will support its growing line-up of high-powered EVs.
