​Geely has produced its one millionth EX2 just two years after production began, that’s almost one every minute. 

According to Geely, the official timeline charts a trend of rapid growth for the supermini, having sold 200,000 EX2s by May 2025 and accelerating to 600,000 cars by March 2026 and one million by October 2026. 

By Geely’s own reckoning, the last 200,000 EX2s were sold in just two months.

Adorably named the Star Wish in the Chinese market, the EX2 was launched back in 2024 as Geely’s first foray into superminis. 

It found immediate success in the Chinese market, shifting 10,000 units in the first 16 days after order books opened. 

We first drove the EX2 out in China in early 2026 when it was already one of the bestselling EVs in the world. 

We weren’t particularly impressed with any one statistic but the EX2 was never about being the fastest to charge or having the longest range. We knew that if the price was right, European manufacturers would be put on notice when the EX2 landed in the UK.

That price is currently just £20,990 which makes the EX2 cheaper than the similarly sized Renault 5 despite not qualifying for the UK government’s electric car grant. 

The EX2 is more spacious too, with up to 375 litres of boot space and a 70-litre frunk. The latter of which, the Renault 5 lacks entirely.

What we didn’t see coming was the EX2s outstanding Euro NCAP test results. The new rules implemented for 2026 placed a greater emphasis on ADAS systems and the EX2 performed admirably, earning a full five-star rating. That immediately placed it above the Cupra Raval, which fell afoul of the new rubric.

The EX2 is proving to be an immensely popular little EV both in its home country and further afield, exemplifying the growth of Chinese carmakers across the globe.
