Do you feel the need for a bigger Buzz? Volkswagen is expanding the ID. Buzz Cargo range with a new long wheelbase model which is stretched by 250mm between the front and rear wheels. It also gets new tech and a bigger battery.

This stretch increases the load compartment volume by half a cubic metre to 4.4 m3. The LWB will come with a second sliding door as standard, and these are 190mm wider than the standard Buzz, allowing a full-size pallet to be slotted in. If you prefer to go in through the back, it can be specified with a hatchback or barn-style rear doors.

The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB also gets more power all round. It has an 86kWh battery, compared to the shorter versions’ 79 kWh. The motor produces 210 kW – that’s 286hp – in the rear-wheel-drive version. There is also the option of twin motor 4MOTION all-wheel-drive, taking the power to 250 kW or 340hp, making it the most powerful van you can buy. 

The maximum payload is up to 700 kg (for the RWD) or 606 kg (for the heavier AWD). The towing capacity of both versions is 1,800 kg. As usual, the Cargo LWB is available as a two- or three-seater. 

New software also introduces a Vehicle-to-Load function, letting drivers power electrical devices directly from the vehicle’s traction battery. Continuous operation or charging at 3.0 kW is possible, using an adapter which plugs into the main charging socket. 

The Buzz upgrades also include new software, a traffic light recognition system and a redesigned multifunction steering wheel with better buttons.

In the UK, order books will open in early 2027, with the first deliveries planned for spring. No prices have been revealed, but it is expected to cost around £2,000 more than the current shorter model.
