Volkswagen has released the first details of its revised Tiguan, including a plug-in hybrid version for the first time.

The Tiguan was the most popular model in the entire Volkswagen Group for 2019, so an electric option is big news.

The new Tiguan eHybrid uses the same set up as other PHEV cars in the VW Group ranges, such as the Skoda Superb iV. It mates a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor to give a total output of 242bhp. It can run on the electric motor alone at up to 81mph and go 31-miles on electric-only power. That means it will have a 10% benefit-in-kind tax rate, potentially saving company car drivers thousands over the course of a year compared to a diesel.

VW Tiguan e Hybrid Wireless Apple CarPlay is among the tech upgrades

In addition to styling changes inside and out, the new Tiguan also gets wireless Apple CarPlay and other tech updates. The new models are due to go on sale in the autumn.
