Need to chill? Feeling your blood pressure rise? A new survey has confirmed what us electric car drivers already knew – driving an electric car is good for you. Three-quarters of drivers say they feel more relaxed in an EV than their previous petrol or diesel vehicle, according to new poll by DS Automobiles ahead of the launch of its new No.8.
An electric car’s lack of vibrations, noise and clunky gearchanges aren’t just good for our feelings of wellbeing and blood pressure either: it also makes us better drivers, according to the study. Among those who experience stress behind the wheel, over a third in the survey (35%) admit it negatively affects how they drive, making them more indecisive, distracted or prone to rash decisions.
The survey also showed that 39% of motorists find driving stressful overall, with the top causes of tension being tailgating, with people following too closely (58%), poor lane discipline from other drivers (53%) and roadworks or traffic congestion (44%).
Getting lost is also a major cause of tension, with 42% of drivers saying that they feel stress while driving in unfamiliar areas, making good sat nav a crucial element in modern motoring.
Jules Tilstone, MD of DS Automobiles UK said: “We know that stress behind the wheel affects more than just the driver, it impacts confidence, decision making and enjoyment. That’s why our aim at DS Automobiles is to craft experiences. With the N°8, we’ve created a true escape from the stresses and strains of British roads.”
