Kia’s EV4 is now eligible for the full Band 1 electric car grant discount of £3,750 says the Korean carmaker. 

Three versions of the EV4 were announced with the £1,500 Band 2 grant back in December 2025, but they’ve just become the first electric models from Kia to be grant the full discount from the UK government. 

Kia says that it went back to the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles within the Department for Transport that administers the grant and provided more evidence from its Slovakian plant of the EV4's sustainability credentials. 

There's a scored environmental element to the ECG that's never been explained by the government, but is largely seen as a way of promoting European-built cars over Chinese-made ones. 

The latest decision on the electric car grant means that the entry level 58.3kWh EV4 Standard Range now starts from £30,995, while the 81.4kWh version in the same trim is now £33,345.

The EV4 Motion Long Range is the third version of the EV4 to qualify for the Band 1 discount, and that now cost £36,745.

Ironically, the extra grant discount means that both the standard and long range versions in Air trim are cheaper than the same models in the EV3 lineup, which means you’re getting plenty of Kia for your cash. This despite those cars getting the £1,500 Band 2 electric car grant discount. 

​The EV4 might be the first Kia to qualify for the full amount of the government’s electric car grant, but it probably won’t be the last – the carmaker says that it expects the 61kWh long range version of the EV2 to get the grant when it arrives later this year. 

The 42.2kWh EV2 First Edition Standard Range has already been approved for the £1,500 Band 2 discount and is currently on sale for £26,995. 

Various versions of the PV5 Passenger MPV also qualify for the lesser amount of the grant, giving potential electric Kia buyers plenty to choose from.
