Kia sold more than 100,000 cars in the UK for the first time in its history in 2022, with pure electric cars taking a record share of sales. The South Korean brand, which offers three fully electric cars in the form of the Soul, Niro EV and EV6, has also confirmed that it plans to significantly expand its battery-powered portfolio in the near future.

In 2022, 42% of all Kia models were electrified, with fully electric cars accounting for 16.3% of all registrations. A total of 16,368 pure electric models were delivered to customers - an increase of 14% more than 2021. Combined sales of the previous-generation e-Niro and all-new Niro EV meant the Niro finished 2022 as the third best-selling EV in the UK behind the Tesla Model Y and Model 3.

Announcing results for 2022, Kia also confirmed ambitious plans to expand its pure electric line-up. Globally, Kia will introduce 14 fully electric models by 2027 as part of its ‘Plan S’ strategy. Nine of these models will make their way to the UK market.

While several models will be built on the brand’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) platform, others will be based on underpinnings designed to accommodate internal combustion engines (like the Niro EV).

Kia’s next E-GMP-based electric car will be the EV9, based on the Concept EV9, first revealed at the end of 2021. Expected to be a full-size seven-seater SUV, it will sit at the top of Kia’s expanded UK range. It is likely to be fitted with a 100kWh battery pack and come with a £55,000 price tag when it arrives in summer.

Vast EV9 seven-seater will be the next all-electric Kia to arrive in the UK
