Mercedes-AMG has revealed its new all-electric GT SUV, a 1,169hp powerhouse with a WLTP range of up to 435 miles and a bonkers 710kW max charge speed.
The new AMG adds to the GT Coupe to round out the small range of bespoke cars from the Affalterbach-based performance division.
The GT SUV is certainly as fast as you’d expect an AMG-designed car to be – it gets from zero to 62mph in just 2.7secs. That's even quicker than the AMG version of the CLA saloon we saw at Goodwood earlier this year.
That’s on the top spec AMG GT 63, which has three motors delivering the top whack 1,169hp. You’ve also got the AMG GT 55 with a still-impressive 816hp, and the entry level AMG GT 53 with 544hp for trips to the shops or whatever.

The 63 and 55 models have high-performance electric drive units front and rear, with the rear unit featuring two e-motors and a planetary gearbox to help get the power to the road, with a single motor up front that acts as a booster when more power is demanded.
The 53 has motors front and rear, with the front again used occasionally and disconnecting to boost efficiency.
Top speed of the AMG GT SUV is 168mph with the optional Driver’s Package fitted – presumably 155mph without it, but Mercedes hasn’t made clear.

There are two battery options available with the car, both with 800V tech – a 106kWh number that can charge at up to 600kW and can add 236 miles in 10 minutes, plus a 128kWh battery that charges at up to 710kW and can add 280 miles of range in 10 minutes.
An interesting snippet from the press material is that Mercedes-AMG has designed the car to be compatible with five different rapid charging systems worldwide – CCS2 (Europe), GB/T (China), CHAdeMO (Japan), CCS1 (South Korea) and NACS (USA).
The GT SUV has been designed for fast driving – the car comes with trick suspension that’s designed to keep body roll in check through corners so that you’re able to deploy some of that incredible speed.

There’s a strange sounding feature (literally?) called AMGFORCE Sport+ that will pump in the sound of an AMG 6cyl or V8 petrol engine, along with simulated gear changes and vibrations generated in your seat.
There’s also an ‘AMG range engineer’ feature that allows you to precisely control the levels of computer assistance on aspects like throttle response, cornering dynamics and wheel slip so you can dial in the excitement on track.
It’s still as practical as you’d expect an SUV to be – the cabin seats five and you’ve got a 607-litre boot out back and a 78-litre frunk under the bonnet. Just make sure you lash down your eggs on the way back from the supermarket unless you’re having them scrambled for breakfast.

You’ve got screens galore inside too – a 10.1in digital instrument panel and a 14.0in infotainment display that’s angled towards the driver. If the front passenger wants in on the action there’s an optional 14.0in screen for them.
There’s a panoramic glass roof as standard across the range and the requisite moody lighting in the cabin for a bit of atmosphere.
Orders open this week in Germany for the entry level GT 53 model at €113,050 (£95,140), though Mercedes UK has yet to confirm details of the car for the UK market. The 53 and 65 models will follow in spring 2027 in Germany.
