What's happening at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed? All the latest from the Duke of Richmond's house

The closest thing that the UK has to a motor show is hitting town (well, the countryside) this weekend and we’re going to be right in the middle of the action.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026 takes place from 9 to 12 July at Goodwood House, the ancestral home of the Duke of Richmond and 12,000-acre estate.

The duke opens up his front garden each year to motoring fans from across the world – the event has long been associated with a celebration of motorsport, but in recent years carmakers have increasingly used the occasion to reveal some of their latest metalware.

Where is Goodwood?

The estate is on the outskirts of Chichester (what am I saying, it []is[] the outskirts of Chichester), almost on the south coast of England near Portsmouth.

The A27 is the recommended route from the east or west, or head down towards the A285 from Guildford way if you’re arriving from up there. There’ll be signs.

There’s a shuttle bus from Chichester train station that takes you to the event if you’re that way inclined.

Is the Festival of Speed big?

You won’t want for anything to do once you’re there, put it that way. You can download a pdf of the event map here, but there are great spots to watch cars going up the hill driven by famous faces, carmakers have stands where you can see their latest launches, and there’s even a shopping area where you can buy a variety of merchandise aimed at dog owners.

What famous drivers will be there?

If you like racing, then the likes of Lando Norris, Pierre Gasly, Damon Hill and Valentino Rossi are all set to be making appearances in machinery they’ll be driving up the Goodwood hillclimb route.

Red Bull probably wins the prize for the most racing stars, with Isack Hadjar, Yuki Tsunoda, Arvid Lindblad and F1’s good boy Liam Lawson making appearances in the outfit’s cars.

Need any more convincing? Then Electrifying’s own James Batchelor will commentating throughout the weekend and you’ll be able to spot the rest of the team out and about during the event, most likely Ginny and Nicola sprinting between filming slots.

Confirmed electric cars at Goodwood

So what cars will on show during the Festival of Speed? Check out our list of all the electric launches, reveals and first appearances to watch out for this weekend.

Renault 5 Turbo 3E

The normal Renault 5 is one of the bestselling EVs on the market, a real success story for the French carmaker. This version, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, is an absolutely crazy limited run high-performance tribute to the Renault Turbo model of the 1980s.

It was first launched in 1980 actually, hence the limited production numbers of 1,980 cars. Though given it’s going to start from £140,000, will Renault even be able to sell all of those? Maybe they should have restricted it to 5 cars, that would have been equally on brand.

Renault is very kindly giving us a drive in the car, so we’re looking forward to that.

Denza Z

Denza is BYD’s fancy new brand that’s launching a few cars over the next few months, but not this one. The Z is a new electric sports car that’s set to arrive in the UK early in 2027 and Goodwood will be the world premiere of the coupe version (the convertible version above was revealed at the Beijing motor show earlier this year).

It has three electric motors that produce over 1,000hp, which means the car will get to 62mph in under two seconds, closely followed by your stomach. If you have a clear runway in front you, top speed is a spicy 217mph.

MG2

This one sticks out a little among all the overpowered mega expensive electric sports cars, but MG is set to reveal a concept car that will point the way to a new electric supermini that's coming in 2027 – is this the new MG2? Or will the car have a different name? Exciting times.

The car has to go up against the rivals as diverse as the Mini Cooper Electric and BYD Dolphin Surf, so it’s going to have to be stylish, spacious and cheap all at the same time. Will it manage it? Watch this space.

McMurtry Spéirling Pure

The Spéirling is the answer to a question that no one particularly asked, but we’re all fascinated now we see it in action. The version at the Festival of Speed is the final production version of the car (yours for a million pounds or so), which has 1,013hp, has a 100kWh battery, weighs 1,350kg and gets to 60mph from rest in 1.55secs.

It uses a giant fan to suck itself to the ground, which interestingly during a heatwave such as we’ve been experiencing could be used to cool down an entire town. The prototype Spéirling still holds the record time for the Goodwood hillclimb, set in 2001 with ex-F1 driver Max Chilton at the wheel.

Alpine A110 Electric prototype

So this isn’t the new Alpine A110 Electric, but it sort of is. Alpine is bringing its ‘mule’ to Goodwood, which is where it hacks at an old version of a car and stuffs all the new stuff inside so that it can test it all without anyone noticing.

Of course, people are going to notice once you’ve put out a press release and run it through a crowd of a couple of tens of thousands of people.

We’re excited about the new A110 EV though – it promises to be a lightweight electric sports car that’s lots of fun and we’ve not really had one of those yet.

Yangwang U9 Extreme

This is the faster version of an already fast car that BYD sub-brand Yangwang will pop on sale at some point.

It was officially the fastest electric car around the Nordschleife circuit at the Nürburgring until it wasn’t, and the fastest production car in a straight line (308mph – it still holds that record at least), the Yangwang U9 Extreme lives up to its name.

It’s powered by four e-motors that produce 3,042hp between them – to think there are people suffering out there with no e-motors – and just 30 of them will be sold in the entire world.

Also on display at Goodwood will be the Yangwang U7 saloon, which arrives in the UK at some point in 2027.

Cupra Raval

The Cupra Raval makes its UK debut at the Festival of Speed, and the sporty Spanish brand has teased us with the promise of two new cars that will be unveiled at the event. Will they be actual fun new cars, or just some special edition versions of something the company already sells? It’s anyone’s guess…

Denza B5

The Denza B5 is the next new Denza that will launch in the UK after the Z9GT (sports car) and the D9 (electric MPV thing) – the plug-in hybrid 4x4 will go on sale before the end of 2026, and potential buyers will be able to go for a test drive in the car around Goodwood’s off-roading track.

Lexus LFA concept

This is the car that's meant to whet our appetite for the next generation of Lexus supercar – bearing in mind the original had a howling V10 engine and represented the Japanese carmaker at the height of its powers... no pressure.
