Land Rover is bringing the actual Range Rover Electric to Goodwood

Land Rover has confirmed that we’re finally going to see the Range Rover Electric revealed (and possibly on sale) before the end of 2026 after a very long time waiting.

Just to whet our appetites, the Coventry-based manufacturer is set to bring the really real production car to the Goodwood Festival of Speed just to prove that it exists. Just like Alpine is doing with the A110 prototype.

The electric Range Rover will be the first proper EV from Land Rover – it was meant to go on sale in 2025, but a combination of Jaguar Land Rover cutbacks and a drop in demand for EVs meant that the British carmaker put back the on sale date by over a year. That hasn't stopped the company from testing the car all over the world, of course.

It could prove serendipitous – it means that Land Rover can time its new Range Rover Electric to coincide with a mid-life refresh for the Range Rover lineup, which has been on sale since 2022. Speculation on our part, of course, but it would seem timely. Prototype test cars have been spotted around JLR’s home county of Warwickshire sporting a range of subtle upgrades.

We don’t imagine too much will be changing, though – indeed, the teaser image that Land Rover sent out with its Goodwood press release was the same one it used in 2023 to tease the Range Rover EV originally. And even then, the picture is so pointless it’s not really worth sharing unless you really want to see the centre cap of an alloy wheel with ‘EV’ written on it.

We do know some of the spec details behind the electric Range Rover though – it’s already been confirmed that the car will have a 118kWh battery and uses 800V tech for 350kW charging that’s all been designed in-house.

Range is said to be somewhere around the 300-mile mark, which given the size of the battery is a bit disappointing compared with rival efforts. Maybe it should just be called the Rover Electric.

Have a read of Ginny’s prototype drive from 2025 to get a feel for the new car, which surprisingly enough feels just like a Range Rover.

JLR is building its own gigafactory to make batteries down in Somerset, but it is itself over a year behind schedule, partly because of supply chain issues and partly because Jaguar Land Rover keeps falling out with the builders.

Keep an eye on the news from Coventry – not just for Range Rover Electric prices and specs, but also for news of electric versions of the next-generation Velar and Range Rover Sport, which we both expect to be announced soonish.

This is the next-generation Velar, that Ginny spotted testing near one of JLR's factories. Paint job and cladding is optional
